Albeit not in the playoffs, the Stettler Lightning finished their season with a bang Friday night in Airdrie.

The Lightning came from behind to tie the Thunder 5-5 in their final game of the Heritage Junior Hockey League season.

Stettler, which closed the schedule with just one loss in its final seven games, failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Derek Muhlbach’s goal with 28 seconds left lifted the Lightning into the tie at Airdrie. His three-point night included two assists.

Jacob Schwarzenberger scored two goals and a assist, while Mitch Finkbiner added a goal and three assists. Tyson Glazier scored the other Stettler goal.

Lightning goaltender Simon Thieleman made 54 saves, including six in overtime. The Lightning were outshot 6-0 in overtime and 59-29 overall.

Stettler posted a 5-1-1 record down the stretch, but placed sixth in the North Division with a 14-21-2-1 record overall.
