Henderson represents Stettler on Zone 4 Winter Games team
Tatyana Henderson of Red Deer is a member of the Stettler Junior Badminton Club. This week, she’s bound for the Alberta Summer Games in Stony Plain. Henderson, 16, is a Grade 11 student at Notre Dame in Red Deer.
Tatyana Henderson took the Stettler route to the Alberta Winter Games.
Henderson, 16, lives in Red Deer, but she’s a member of the Stettler Junior Badminton Club.
“There wasn’t a club in Red Deer when I started, so I just came out here,” Henderson said during a practice at the Stettler Elementary School gym.
She joined the Stettler club last year, though the Grade 11 student has been playing badminton since her middle school days.
She attends high school at Notre Dame in Red Deer, which hosted the tryouts for the Zone 4 team for this weekend’s Alberta Winter Games in Stony Plain.
“Well, there were only five girls that tried out and four made it,” Henderson said.
“It should be fun. Good practice.”
Henderson does the tournament circuit as part of her badminton participation, but said she hasn’t competed at any event of the magnitude of the provincial Games.
Badminton is her lone sport, and she dedicates much time to travelling back and forth to Stettler twice weekly for practices.
“It’s fun and it’s a good workout,” said Henderson, whose brother is also a member of the Stettler junior club.
Her mixed doubles partner for the Winter Games is Amy Lank. Henderson warmed up for the Winter Games by playing in the Stettler tournament this past weekend.
