Wayward vehicle causes ‘considerable damage’ to Stettler Dog Park property

Below is a summary of most calls for service by Stettler RCMP over a one week period, running from Jan. 31 to Feb. 6.

Calls that have SUI attached are still under investigation.

Tuesday, Jan. 31

6:40 a.m. — Report of vandalism, as graffiti was spray-painted on a garage in the alley of 41st Avenue starting at the 5700 block. Investigators discovered that several garage-type buildings were painted overnight in the same general area.

8:08 a.m. — Report of a single-vehicle collision with a deer, 20 kilometres north of Stettler on Highway 56.

1:42 p.m. — Report of graffiti painted on a garage in the alley on 58th Street.

4:02 p.m. — Investigators were called to a sudden death at a 50A Avenue residence. A 49-year-old male with a previous British Columbia address was found deceased inside his van. The exact cause of death is unknown at this time, but foul play was ruled out.

5:26 p.m. — Report of a hit-and-run collision in the Wal-Mart parking lot. A Nissan pickup was struck and damaging a rear tail light. The second driver, operating a Dodge van, reported the collision. The 33-year-old female driver from Stettler was charged with backing up unsafely.

5:34 p.m. — Complaint of graffiti spray-painted on a garage door in the alley on 58A Street. It was noted that three other garages in the same alley were also painted in similar fashion.

Wednesday, Feb. 1

11:40 a.m. — Complaint of theft from an Emmerson Acres residence. The caller reported that approximately 150 narcotic sleeping pills and a 50-year-old ring were stolen. A suspect was identified and charges are pending.

3:10 p.m. — Complaint of graffiti spray-painted on a motor home that was parked on 46th Avenue.

6:19 p.m. — Report of an assault of a 13-yearold female youth who was walking home on 46th Avenue. The five-foot-eight male suspect was walking the opposite direction and grabbed the girl’s arm as he passed. She was able to get free and eventually called police. SUI

Thursday, Feb 2

11:35 a.m. — False alarm at the Stettler Golf and Country Club. The clubhouse was found to be secure.

12:32 p.m. — False alarm at a 51st Avenue residence. Investigators were called off prior to attending.

8:43 p.m. — Complaint received about a 17-year-old male driver from Stettler who was operating a Ford Escort that was not registered and was uninsured. This vehicle was not located.

Friday, Feb. 3

12:39 a.m. — A vehicle stop was conducted on 44th Avenue as a result of the pickup truck not having any tail lights. The 46-year-old male driver from Castor was found to have an expired driver’s licence and it was determined that his ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol. He was arrested and found to be over the legal limit. This driver is charged with impaired driving, being over .08 mg/100 ml and four additional provincial driving offences. Court is scheduled for March 22.

8:41 a.m. — Report of a two-vehicle collision in the high school parking lot. A 41-year-old female driver from Stettler was charged with turning left unsafely.

4:25 p.m. — Report of a two-vehicle collision on 47th Avenue. The 19-year-old male driver from Stettler advised that he was eastbound, when the second vehicle driver attempted a U-turn. The driver’s side cab and truck box were damaged on the 1992, GMC. Charges are pending against the second driver.

4:28 p.m. — A 911 call reporting a two-vehicle collision at the corner of 46th Street and 49th Avenue. There were no injuries and both vehicles were driveable. The operators of the GMC-400 and the 2003 International attended the detachment to complete a collision report.

Saturday, Feb. 4

10:22 a.m. — Overnight, unknown person(s) intentionally caused considerable damage to the Stettler Dog Park while operating a black Dodge Neon automobile. The front gate was rammed and a car was driven all over the grassy area, which caused significant damage to the grounds. The vehicle responsible was then abandoned nearby. The Neon was towed, as it was unregistered, uninsured and the current owner had not been located. The investigator has identified suspects. 11:22 a.m. — Report of lost car keys in the area of Main Street or Subway. The keys are from a Jeep Compass and, if found, please turn them in to the detachment.

2 p.m. — Investigators received a report of a sexual assault from an 18-year-old female victim. SUI

3:09 p.m. — Report of a black Dodge Neon being stolen overnight from a 52nd Avenue residence. The caller provided the name of a suspect. SUI

5:48 p.m. — A 911 hang-up from an Emmerson Acres residence. The caller got mad when the 911 operator asked him if there was a fire. Alcohol was a factor.

7:46 p.m. — A 911 hang-up from a Stettler residence. The caller reported that his speed dial accidentally dialed the emergency number.

Sunday, Feb. 5

1:36 a.m. — Report from the Stettler Fas Gas that a vehicle drove away from the gas pump with the hose still attached to the car. The 21-year-old female driver from Stettler was located and she offered to pay for the damages.

4:43 a.m. — Commercial false alarm at MacRae Street business in Erskine.

5:25 a.m. — Residential false alarm at a rural Stettler residence.

12:50 p.m. — Complaint of a white-coloured GMC pickup truck parked in the Handicap stall at Sobeys and it was obstructing vehicle movement. The 77-year-old Stettler driver provided a Handicap placard to the investigator.

1:35 p.m. — Complaint of theft of gasoline from a 1982 Chevrolet pickup truck. The caller reported

that half a tank of gas was siphoned overnight from her vehicle, which was parked in front of her 50th Avenue apartment.

4:54 p.m. — Report of the theft of a dark blue-coloured 2003, Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck from the Stettler Dodge dealership. The vehicle was parked on the lot overnight with permission from the dealer. When the owner returned next day, the vehicle was gone. SUI

6:51 p.m. — Complaint of a semi-truck with a red-coloured trailer attached, causing a road hazard. Investigator attended Range Road 20-1 and Highway 12 to find no lights on the trailer. The driver was instructed to move the vehicle further down the road and away from the intersection. He was also required to turn on his lights.

11:46 p.m. — Report of a collision with a dog on 44th Avenue. The Stettler driver reported that the animal ran in front of his vehicle and he did not have time to react. It’s unknown what happened to the dog.

Monday, Feb. 6

12:51 a.m. — A commercial false alarm at a 50th Avenue business. The building was secure upon inspection.
