Good Samaritan returns wallet to its rightful place

Below is a summary of most calls for Stettler RCMP service during a one-week period, running from Monday, Jan. 16, to Monday, Jan. 23.
Calls that have SUI attached are still under investigation.

Monday, Jan. 16
7:45 a.m. — The 25-year-old owner of a 2008 Chevrolet Trail Blazer reported that her SUV was involved in a hit-and-run crash overnight, when it was parked near her residence on 40th Avenue. A 30-year-old Stettler man, who lives in the same apartment complex, was later located and charged with failing to remain at the scene of a collision. A court date was set for early March.
7:51 a.m. — A 911 hang-up call was reported from a 50th Avenue business. It was identified that there was a problem with a conference call.
9:27 a.m. — Report of a two-vehicle collision on 65th Street. The driver reported that he was southbound, hit an icy patch and struck a parked car. SUI
10:10 a.m. — Report of a single-vehicle collision with a deer on Township Road 40-4 and a half-mile west of Highway 56.
10:38 a.m. — Residential false alarm at a 53rd Avenue home.
1:26 p.m. — A Good Samaritan turned in a wallet that was found on the side of the road near the water and sewage building. The item was returned to the owner.
2:40 p.m. — A 22-year-old driver from Alix reported that he was southbound on Highway 56, and near Highway 601, when a deer ran out of the east ditch. When he swerved his 2008 Dodge 3500 in attempt to avoid the animal, he lost control due to icy conditions and drove into the ditch. Damage estimates are more than $7,800.
7:45 p.m. — Report of a suspicious male having mental health issues outside of his pickup truck near Sobeys. An investigator responded and the male suspect was gone when police arrived.
Tuesday, Jan. 17
7:07 a.m. — Residential false alarm reported from a 54th Avenue home.
12:30 p.m. — A 17-year-old Stettler driver reported that she was driving on 59th Street, turning onto Highway 12, when the vehicle in front of her reversed and collided with the front of her vehicle. The damage was substantial, and when the young driver attempted to obtain insurance information, the 65-year-old driver of the second vehicle departed the scene. That Stettler driver was later located and charged with failing to remain at a collision scene, failing to produce documents, and backing up in an unsafe manner. A court date is scheduled for late February.
3:40 p.m. — The RCMP school resource officer was patrolling the area of the high school parking lot when he discovered a two-vehicle collision that had just occurred on 50th Avenue. A 17-year-old driver from Stettler was charged with failing to yield to a motor vehicle when entering a highway.
Wednesday, Jan. 18
6:22 p.m. — Complaint received from the Boston Pizza lounge that two males were intoxicated and loud, and they refused to leave the premises when asked. Investigators responded and two Stettler men, ages 26 and 27, departed the business without incident.
8:28 p.m. — Commercial false alarm on 50th Avenue.
10:34 p.m. — Report of an intoxicated driver who departed the hospital in a black-coloured Ford F-150. A patrol was conducted and the vehicle wasn’t located.
Thursday, Jan. 19
3:33 a.m. — An investigator on patrol observed a driver of a black-coloured pickup truck do a 180-degree turn on Highway 56, near the intersection of Highway 12. The truck was observed to have driven over the centre median and head eastbound on Highway 12. The vehicle was pulled over and the 23-year-old driver from Erskine showed signs of impairment. The driver was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle and escorted to the detachment. He was found to be over the legal alcohol limit and was held in cells until he became sober. The driver is facing a February court date.
5:50 a.m. — Complaint received from a 50A Avenue residence regarding the return of a pickup truck. The call resulted from a domestic dispute and the caller was advised to contact a lawyer to obtain a civil resolution.
12:10 p.m. — Report of two 25-litre gas cans being stolen overnight from the back of a pickup truck that was parked in front of a 60th Street residence. A ratchet strap securing the containers was cut during the theft.
4:29 p.m. — Report of a two-vehicle collision on Spruce Drive. The 20-year-old driver of a 2003 GMC pickup turned left in front of a 2007 Dodge Charger. It’s believed the driver of the truck didn’t see the oncoming automobile because the bright sun obstructed his view.
Friday, Jan. 20
2:30 a.m. — Report that on or between Jan. 18 and Jan. 20, suspects cut the cable to the 911-dispatch tower in Big Valley, which disabled it. This tower is used to radio the Stettler Regional Fire Rescue department in times of an emergency. SUI
8:40 a.m. — Report of a single-vehicle collision with a deer on Range Road 17-3, north of Township Road 37-4.
11:30 a.m. — Complaint regarding the storage of personal property at a 41st Avenue residence. The resident was instructed to obtain a resolution in civil court.
4:50 p.m. — Report of an injured deer near a residence on Highway 56 north. An investigator attended and dispatched the deer. There was no vehicle located.
6:25 p.m. — Report of a two-vehicle collision on 64th Street. The 54-year-old driver of a Chevrolet Avalanche stated that he looked before backing from his driveway and a Ford F-150 drove behind him. SUI
Saturday, Jan. 21
2:16 a.m. — Complaint received of an intoxicated male refusing to leave Social Bo’s bar at the request of staff. Investigators responded and arrested a 24-year-old male from Edmonton and charged him with causing a disturbance. He was held in custody at the detachment until he became sober. A court date is pending.
5:24 a.m. — Report that an unknown female could be heard screaming outside a 59th Street residence. The female wasn’t located and no further calls were received.
3:28 p.m. — Complaint received of unrestrained children riding in a black-coloured Ford Expedition on 59th Street. The vehicle wasn’t located.
6:37 p.m. — Report of a ladder dropped on Highway 12 between Halkirk and Gadsby. The ladder was recovered and is being stored at the detachment. The owner hasn’t been located. SUI
Sunday, Jan. 22
4:49 a.m. — False commercial alarm on 47th Avenue.
2 p.m. — Investigators were called to a rural residence on Township Road 36, near Byemoor, where an emotionally disturbed female was placed in police custody under the provisions of the Mental Health Act. The same female was escorted to the Stettler detachment, where she received a medical assessment. She was released on a promise to appear, after being charged with resisting a peace officer. Alcohol use was a factor.
6 p.m. — An investigator pulled over a 1983 Dodge pickup on Highway 12 for an equipment violation of no licence plate lights. The 21-year-old male from Stettler was found to have in his possession a controlled substance — marijuana. The accused is scheduled to appear in court in early March.
Monday, Jan. 23
2:40 a.m. — Investigators attended a 62nd Street apartment after receiving a complaint for excessively loud music. The occupants were instructed to turn down the volume, and they complied.
