Fas Gas employee encounters belligerent, drunken customer

Stettler RCMP received multiple calls for service during a one-week period that ran from Tuesday, Jan. 3, to Monday, Jan. 9.

Calls with the SUI designation attached are still under investigation.

Anyone with information regarding unsolved crimes or incidents is asked to contact the Stettler RCMP at 403-742-3382, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Tuesday, Jan. 3

6:07 p.m. — Members received a complaint of a domestic argument at a 49th Street residence. An investigator provided advice to deal with the problem. Both parties resolved the issue without police intervention.

8:49 p.m. — Report of a motor vehicle hit-and-run with a tree on 4th Avenue South in Big Valley. A damaged early model Chevrolet station wagon was found in the area and the owner reported that he had swerved for a dog and lost control of his vehicle due to icy road conditions. Damage was estimated at less than $2,000. No charges were laid.

Wednesday, Jan. 4

8:56 a.m. — Report of fuel being stolen from an oil site near Big Valley. Suspects drained three bulldozers of about 300 liters of diesel fuel. SUI

2:25 p.m. — Report of three young girls walking on Highway 56 near the ring road. It looked suspicious to the complainant, because the girls were carrying backpacks. A patrol was made but no one was located in the area.

3:19 p.m. — Report of mischief to a parked vehicle at a 47th Avenue apartment. Witnesses observed a window being broken with a baseball bat, which might have been the result of an earlier argument. SUI.

6:40 p.m. — Members responded to a complaint of a wanted, unlicensed driver operating a two-tone brown station wagon on 2nd Avenue South in Big Valley. The driver wasn’t located.

7:10 p.m. — Report of a motor vehicle collision with a deer 18 kilometres north of Stettler on Highway 56.

9:22 p.m. — Complaint of a domestic dispute at a residence in the Phoenix Sands subdivision. The matter was resolved without charges. Alcohol was a factor.

Thursday, Jan. 5

2:48 a.m. — Commercial false alarm on 54th Street.

8:10 a.m. — Report of mischief by arson to the front doors at the Big Valley School. Paper was jammed into the handle of the doors, dowsed with gasoline and lit on fire. Damage was estimated at $500. There were no injuries, as the fire occurred overnight. SUI

12:21 p.m. — Request for assistance regarding a child custody agreement from a Highway 56 resident. The matter was resolved without further police involvement.

5:06 p.m. — A 911 call for assistance at a 58th Street residence. There was disagreement between a teenage youth and parents. Possible solutions were provided to solve the issues. There was no further action required.

11:27 p.m. — Report of a stray black lab puppy at the front door of an Emmerson Acres residence. The owner could not be located and the dog was turned over to the veterinarian. The dog was returned to the owner.

Friday, Jan. 6

1:06 a.m. — A 911 panic alarm at the Fas Gas reported an intoxicated male harassing the lone female employee. The problem started when the male customer started yelling when there was no cheese available for his Nachos. The store employee declined to follow-up with charges. The 31-year-old Stettler man was escorted to his residence.

2:16 a.m. — Complaint of loud music coming from inside a 50A Avenue residence. The resident of the property turned down the music without further incident.

3:41 a.m. — A 911 call from a rural residence on Range Road 19-4. Members attended and found no emergency. The source of the call was unknown.

8:07 a.m. — Request received to assist a 45-year-old female retrieve her personal property from a Prospect Avenue residence in Erskine. An investigator attended and there were no problems.

9:17 a.m. — A 911 hang-up linked to a disconnected phone number on 46th Avenue.

10:22 a.m. — A 911 call reporting a non-injury two-vehicle collision on 49th Avenue. The back wheels of a large truck scraped the back bumper of the second vehicle. Both drivers attended the detachment. SUI

3:07 p.m. — Report of a single-vehicle collision with a deer on Highway 56 south.

3:37 p.m. — A 911 call reported unsafe traffic flagging on Highway 590 near Big Valley. The caller advised that the flagging crew was located too close to the construction and there was a near-miss when the driver crested the hill. There was also a verbal altercation between the driver and a flag person. That information was forwarded to LEDCOR highway maintenance.

3:33 p.m. — A Royal Bank customer card was turned in after it was found near the 62nd Street liquor store. The owner was contacted to pick it up.

11:20 p.m. — Report of a possible impaired driver operating a grey car in the area of 40th Avenue. It was determined that this was public mischief, as the caller was providing false information about himself and the incident.

Saturday, Jan. 7

12:30 a.m. — Investigators observed and towed a Dodge pickup truck with expired licence plates from the street of a 50th Avenue residence. The owner was issued a violation ticket.

12:42 a.m. — Report of an erratic driver on Highway 56 near Township Road 37-2. The complainant was following a slow-moving orange-coloured Ford Mustang and at every attempt to pass, the Mustang would speed up. The Mustang car eventually drove off at high speed, with the driver nearly losing control. This same vehicle was located and the registered owner was issued a violation ticket for driving carelessly.

2:10 a.m. — A 911 call reported a 30-year-old and an 18-year-old female fighting at the Town Pump Lounge. Investigators attended and identified both fighters. Neither was willing to provide statements and there were no charges. Alcohol was a factor.

6:23 a.m. — A 911 call reported numerous assaults at a 47th Avenue apartment. A 15-year-old youth was arrested and charged with three counts of assault and two counts of failing to comply with conditions of an undertaking. Drugs and alcohol were factors related to this incident. The same accused youth is on court conditions for a previous assault charge and causing a disturbance.

2:47 p.m. — Break and enter was reported at the rear compound at the Stettler Peavey Mart. The chain link fence was cut to gain access to the storage area. SUI.

3:08 p.m. — Investigators attended a rural residence near White Sands to investigate a child-welfare complaint. Officers discovered the father of the child to be intoxicated by alcohol and he was arrested upon his uttering threats to the investigators. The accused is facing one charge of uttering threats, resisting arrest, and six counts of unsafe storage of firearms. SUI

8:23 p.m. — False residential panic alarm at a 50th Street residence.

Sunday, Jan. 8

3:32 p.m. — Report of unauthorized hunters on Range Road 17-5. A white-coloured SUV was noted in the neighbour’s field near Highway 12 and shots were heard. Investigators patrolled the area but did not locate the vehicle.

11:17 p.m. — Report that a semi-truck was left running for the past 12 hours across from the Plains Motor Inn and the caller was concerned for the driver’s welfare. The operator was located, and all was OK.

11:30 p.m. — A vehicle was stopped on Highway 12 near Erskine, as a result of a traffic safety violation. Upon approaching the driver’s window, a strong odour of marijuana could be detected from the inside of the vehicle. Both vehicle occupants were detained for investigation and a search of the vehicle produced two bags of marijuana. Two 18-year-old males from the Bashaw area were charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Monday, Jan. 9

8:52 a.m. — Report of a motor vehicle collision with a deer on Highway 850, north of Botha. Three deer ran out from the west ditch and driver did not see them in time. One deer was struck.
