Cow Patti makes Lacombe comeback for ‘Long Weekend’
LACOMBE — Lacombe’s Cow Patti Theatre Company is back after an 11-year hiatus with the Norm Foster comedy, The Long Weekend.
The professional company that was formed in 1997 in Lacombe had actually been operating since 2000 in Cornwall, Ont., where its founders had relocated.
But now Cow Patti theatre is back in Central Alberta, with plans to stage a comedy with some performances to benefit charities.
Co-founder AnnaMarie Lea said she’s thrilled that her husband’s job brought them back to the Prairies. It was an unexpected move, as Cow Patti had been operating very successfully in Ontario. Lea decided to keep the group going there, as well as restarting a Lacombe branch of the company.
Cow Patti operates under the Canadian Actors’ Equity Association and pays its actors. Lea said the group also likes to give a start to non-union actors, so has open auditions. “We’re very excited to be back and excited to be able to show audiences great shows.”
The Long Weekend is the story of Max and Wynn, and Roger and Abby. What was supposed to be a fun weekend in the country for the two couples becomes complicated when something other than friendship rears its head.
The play that stars two Ontario actors, Garfield Andrews and Victor Cornfoot, as well as local thespians Valerie Barrett and AnnaMarie Lea, opened Nov. 24 and runs through Sunday (Dec. 11) at the Lacombe Golf and Country Club.
Dinner theatre, evening cabaret, brunch theatre and matinees are available for various ticket prices that range from $27 to $58.
As well, three performances — including this Thursday’s show — are benefits for the Lacombe Performing Arts Centre Foundation, St. Andrew’s United Church’s Friends of Guatemala, and the Ponoka Shrine Fire Truck Unit.
Cow Patti has over the years raised close to $150,000 for various charities and non-profits.
