German visitors watch McKnight score winner

After a pot-luck supper, the Halkirk seniors held their annual meeting last Tuesday evening. A new executive was chosen for the coming year, with Adolf Heier as the new president and Rose Koenraadt as vice-president.

Wendy Ashbacher is the secretary and Linda Chick is the treasurer.

Floor curling is held every Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. Bingo is every other Tuesday afternoon at 1:30, starting on Feb. 7. The floor curling bonspiel to be held on Feb. 14 is full, but there’s always room for spectators.

Two crib tournaments a scheduled, with the age 55-plus group on March 3 and the open age group on March 17. Phone Jacquie Dietrich for details.

Congratulations to the Mother Teresa students who placed in the 2011 Legion poster and literary contest. Zoey Giffin, Emily Ross and Kiara Gamroth won in the grades 1 to 3 category. Mikenna Schauer and Abby Musgrove were winners in the grades 4 to 6 category.

The junior high girls’ and boys’ basketball teams were both successful this week in their games against the Byemoor and Big Valley teams.

Sympathy is extended to Lorna and Morris Schilling and girls on the passing of Lorna’s grandmother in Red Deer.

Get-well wishes to Jean Plouvier, who is a patient in the Red Deer hospital following surgery for a broken hip.

Kurt and Erin Chick returned home on Thursday following a 10-day visit with Matt and Jessica McKnight in Weisswasser, Germany. While there, they toured several points of interest in Berlin and Dresden, Germany, and in Prague in the Czech Republic, which included the memorial at the Berlin wall and a concentration camp.

Although the cities were very clean, there was also lots of graffiti. They watched Matt play pro hockey and were thrilled when he scored the winning goal.

Ticket sales have been described as brisk by the organizers of the Elks seafood supper and comedy evening on Feb. 11. Call Charles at 884-2052 for info.
