The only person charged in relation to a knife attack in Canmore last week has been released on $5,000 cash bail.

Ricky Allan Everson appeared in Calgary Provincial Court Tuesday

(Jan. 26) by closed circuit television for a bail hearing.

Crown Prosecutor Beverly Bauer did not contest the 27-year-old’s release, but asked the court for $5,000 cash bail and conditions that he not go to Canmore, consume alcohol or have contact with any of the victims.

The charges of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm in relation to the Jan. 22 stabbing at Zona’s Late Night Bistro were put over to Feb. 16 in Calgary.

Meanwhile, RCMP are seeking the help of anyone who may have been at the popular Thursday night dance club, known as Zen Lounge, that night.

Cpl. Martine Renaud said any detail, no matter how small, can assist RCMP in their investigation, which is still underway.

“Even the smallest details… to us they might be big,” Renaud said.

In particular, RCMP are looking for information regarding a black 2004 SUV seen leaving the crime scene.

Renaud said the investigation is

trying to piece together the movements of the vehicle between the time it left Zona’s and was pulled over by Cochrane RCMP on the Trans-Canada Highway in a high-risk takedown.

Anyone with information is asked to attend or call the local detachment at

(403) 678-5579 and they will be referred to the investigating officer.

Everson was with two other males in the vehicle when it was pulled over some time before 3 a.m.

Canmore emergency services were called to Zona’s at approximately 2 a.m. to respond to a stabbing in progress.

Three adult male victims were found in various areas of the business being given first aid by several bystanders.

Assistant Chief Mike Bergstrom said crews are thankful for those individuals who helped as it made a difference.

“Bystanders in general were very helpful, said Bergstrom. “One fellow had first-aid training and there was an off-duty hospital worker. A fairly large group of people provided aid which was quite noticeable and quite helpful.

“I thought it was fantastic; they were doing a very good job and we did offer some praise and a few pats on the back and helped clean them up before they left the scene.

“Sometimes, you just have the right people in the right place at the right time.”

In addition to Canmore EMS, Banff EMS and Canmore fire department staff attended the scene and three victims, Jude Sternloff, Shawn Martin and Jamie Jenkins, were transported to the local hospital.

Soon after, Martin and Jenkins were transferred to Foothills Hospital. Canmore Fire-EMS transferred one patient in critical and unstable condition. Banff EMS transferred one patient in serious but stable condition.

Both remain in the Calgary hospital recovering from their injuries.

Renaud, however, could not provide details on the nature of the injuries any of the three victims sustained, but said one is looking at two to three weeks in hospital as a result.
