Ice-glazed highways cause wrecks near Red Deer

It’s not exactly the most wonderful time of the year — at least not on Central Alberta highways.

Roads are snow covered with icy sections and visibility is limited due to blowing snow. Police were called to numerous collisions Wednesday morning. There have also been reports of semi-trucks rolled or jacknifed.

RCMP are restricting travel on Hwy 2 at Red Deer, between the 67th and 32nd Street overpasses, because of the large number of vehicles that have hit the ditch. Anyone who does venture onto the highway faces significant delays.

Motorists are advised to use extreme caution, drive slowly and maintain safe distances between vehicles.
