Hockey players make provincial bantam team
Two Rimbey hockey players have made it to the big leagues.
Andrea Anderson and Shealee Dolan, both 13-year-old Grade 8 students at Rimbey Senior/Junior High School, have been selected to Zone 4 Alberta Winter Games bantam female team.
The team will compete in the Winter Games in Spruce Grove Feb. 9 to 12.
Anderson, who plays defense for the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs bantam AAA Girls, made the team after tryouts held in Penhold in early December.
“I was definitely happy. I had worked really hard.”
Anderson loves hockey and hopes to shape her future career around the game. She also enjoys basketball, volleyball, soccer and rodeoing.
Her favorite teams are Team Canada and the Edmonton Oilers.
Dolan, who plays centre for the Lacombe Rockets bantam female team, was excited to learn she had been selected.
“It’s a fun sport. You get to travel and you get to meet new people.”
Dolan also plays basketball and has plans to continue playing hockey at a competitive level.
She said her favorite NHL Team is the Calgary Flames and was pleased to actually obtain some of their autographs last year.
“It was really cool.”
The Zone 4 team has players from Ponoka, Camrose, Stettler, Delburne, Red Deer, Innisfail and Sylvan Lake.
The team will have a practice in Rimbey Jan. 29 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 and from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and the public is invited to come out and watch the high calibre hockey players in action.
