Use of the main auditorium at the Rimbey Community Centre is continuing to grow and next month the room will be open even more hours.

Peter Stenstrom, community services co-ordinator, said as of Feb. 13, the auditorium, which is also used as a gym will be open from noon to 2 p.m. and from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

“Anyone who is on their lunch hour and wants to slip up and have a quick game of badminton or shoot hoops (once equipment is installed) will be able to do so,” he said. “In the afternoon it will be available for junior high or high school students who want to hang out there.”

Stenstrom said the joint use agreement with Wolf Creek Public Schools has resulted in an increase in bookings and he wants to see that continue.

“It’s been very positive both ways,” he said, noting the public uses the school for walking and other activities.

Stenstrom said the recreation department is working to ensure the main auditorium, previously used primarily as an event hall, is set up to encompass sports activities as well as events.

Basketball hoops will be installed soon.
