RCMP charge man with theft from lease site
In the last week, Rimbey RCMP were busy investigating theft, fraud, uttering threats and cases regarding possession of stolen property.
Long lost stolen goods recovered
Rimbey detachment continued to pursue folks in the community who are in possession of stolen property and illegal drugs. After a lengthy investigation, another search warrant was executed on a farm in the rural area west of Rimbey between Leedale and the Aurora Hall. Police seized a stolen tandem axle trailer that was stolen in 2009 from an oil lease site west of Rimbey. Officers also seized tools and a quantity of methamphetamine during the search. A 28-year-old Rimbey man was arrested, charged and released from custody and will appear in provincial court in Rimbey on March 2 where he will speak to several criminal charges.
Report broken fences to landowners
Officers often encounter livestock on the roadways. Having your stray animals at large is an offence. However, in some cases it was not the stock owner’s fault. Recently, there have been numerous motor vehicle collisions involving cars running off the roadway and crashing through a barbed wire fence. The collision is reported later to the police but neither the owner nor the police are advised that a fence was broken. This has caused many issues of livestock being at large creating a dangerous situation for other motorists. If you run into a fence, report it to the landowner and police immediately.
If it seems too good to be true…
Police continue to investigate ongoing fraud complaints. It is unfortunate but believe it or not there are people out there who are not totally honest. Innocent, hardworking people are being taken advantage of by people portraying themselves as a “seller” who offer goods for a “real good deal.”
Remember, if you are buying items online and transferring money before you receive your product, you are taking a risk. Please do your research ahead of time to minimize your risk. There are many credible online sites where the purchaser is protected but there are many that are not.
If the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is! Seriously, who buys a brand new Toyota 4x4 for $2,500?
Plan to get home safe
There were two more cases of drinking and driving last week. Please make a plan on how you are going to get home before you go out on the town or even just to the curling rink to throw a few stones. Be responsible and please don’t drink and drive.
