Parade truck sold to highest bidder
It appears an antique truck, which has endured a rough and rocky ride ever since being purchased as a potential parade vehicle for the Town of Rimbey, will go to a good home.
At its regular meeting Feb. 13, council agreed to accept $4,525 for the 1934 International Truck truck from Tom Meier, the highest bidder for the vehicle.
Meier, who lives in Cadogan, a hamlet near Provost, plans to rebuild the truck with the help of his children, Ivory, 11, Diesel, nine and Colton, six.
“It’s a family project,” said Meier’s wife, Lois.
Meier said her husband, a tree trimmer who also does odd jobs, was excited to learn his offer was accepted.
“We have no commercial use for it. It will just be a family project. He has never done anything like this before, but he did build his own Harley-Davidson. He’s unique that way.”
Meier has fond memories of Rimbey as her grandparents, Harold and Evelyn Liknes, lived in Bluffton when she was a child.
There were 12 offers to purchase for the truck.
An advertisement was placed on Kijiji and written offers were accepted until Feb 10.
“We actually had a fair amount of interest,” said CAO Tony Goode. “Bids went from $600 to the highest bid.”
