Getting accurate information to students, staff, public and media as quickly as possible is the priority of a new communication plan for crisis situations being developed by Wolf Creek Public Schools.

While it is still in formation, the plan, once finalized, will make clear the types of events that constitute a crisis situation, and which of them merit putting the plan into action. With a strong emphasis placed on the element of safety, the plan was conceived after members of the board attended a legal conference hosted by the Alberta School Boards Association.

Larry Jacobs, superintendent of schools, explained while similar plans do exist, there are none that specifically address the needs of the students, staff and parents of the division as outlined by the board.

“There’s not one that I could find that goes directly to the heart of what we wanted as an administrative procedure in the event of a crisis situation,” said Jacobs. “We’ve built this as best as we could to protect our students and staff so that we have a plan to react appropriately.”
