In the last week, the Rimbey RCMP detachment was kept busy investigating break and enter complaints, theft, uttering threats and assault complaints.

Arrests made in B&Es

Rimbey detachment conducted an extensive investigation into the ongoing break and enter complaints where businesses have been victimized in Rimbey the last few months.

On Jan.19, another business on Main Street was broken into at approximately 5:25 a.m. The culprit smashed the front window and stole two cash registers. The culprit was wearing a mask to hide his identity from the store surveillance cameras. During the subsequent investigation, Rimbey Mounties arrested a 21-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl, both from Rimbey in connection with the recent crime spree. A search warrant was executed at a residence in Rimbey. Evidence was seized during the search, including stolen firearms, knives, computers and a large number of tools.

The ongoing investigation in Rimbey led police to an additional residence in Ponoka where a search warrant was executed and several more stolen firearms were seized.

This exhaustive investigation resulted in the Rimbey man being charged with 26 Criminal Code offences and several more are pending. The teenaged girl was also charged with Criminal Code offences. Police have been able to link the accused man to at least six separate business break and enters and theft complaints. The investigation into these matters continues. The accused are being held in custody.

Drunk driver arrested

Police continue to crack down on impaired drivers in ongoing efforts to make the streets in Rimbey safer. Another 24-year-old man, a resident of Sylvan Lake, was stopped after the bars closed last weekend and the driver refused to provide a breath sample when requested by the patrolling officer. That resulting in him being charged under the Criminal Code. His driver’s license was suspended and his vehicle impounded.

Working for a safer Rimbey

RCMP were involved in several community meetings last week. The Rimbey Interagency Group and the Rimbey Community Wellness working group met again to discuss strategies on how to improve service delivery and how all partners and stakeholders involved can work together to tackle some of the issues our community is facing.

This group of citizens committed to community health and safety meet every month at Neighborhood Place.

The Rural Crime Watch Association annual general meeting and dinner is quickly approaching at the Leedale Hall Jan. 25. Tickets are still available at the detachment.
