Women’s conference offers potpourri of sessions
Flower power: Janet Rathjen, a flower designer in Rimbey, arranges a lovely bouquet of roses, Gerbera daisies and baby’s breath last week. The flowers add a bright splash of color to a black and white January day. Rathjen is the flower designer who will head a session at the Rimbey Women’s Conference coming Feb. 9.

Rimbey’s annual women’s conference is back again, offering as always, a potpourri of sessions, a variety of vendors, a fascinating keynote speaker and a great lunch.
Brenda Verheire, president of the women’s conference committee, said this year’s theme for the 26th women’s conference to be held Feb. 9 at the Rimbey Community Centre from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. is Walk Your Way.
Following registration and refreshments, the day will kick off with a welcome and presentation by keynote speaker Karen Driedger, whose talk, entitled Strut Your Stuff, will be sure to set the mood for a great day to follow.
Driedger owns Fourward Thinking, a service based company based on providing creative and professional expertise in learning, living, leadership and leisure. The team at Fourward Thinking works collaboratively with entrepreneurs, organizations, businesses and communities to build creative solutions for unique opportunities.
Following the keynote speaker, three concurrent sessions will be held. The women are invited to listen to Women and Finance with Anna Boruck, or Sherry Gummow, owner of Busted Ladies Lingerie in Ponoka, who will talk about the importance of a proper bra fitting. Finally, Dr. Kim Adzich, a Rimbey physician who has been involved in supporting international hospice/palliative care through BELhospice in Belgrade, Serbia will speak on The Rimbey-Serbian Connection.
After lunch and entertainment, afternoon sessions include Janet Rathgen, designer at Blooms Etc. who will give a presentation on designing with garden flowers. Other presenters will be Christian Seidel, who will speak about zero waste and how do we get there and Laurie H. Davis, an international professional speaker whose presentation is entitled ‘No one can ruin my plans’.
Following coffee and a short break, Karen Driedger will end the conference with a presentation entitled Powerful Voices.
