In this country no team is better than Team Alberta. They are the curling champs. Premature? Maybe, if I were talking about the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. No, the Team Alberta I’m talking about is not skipped by Heather Nedohin, but by Jocelyn Peterman of Red Deer, the National Junior Curling champion.

“Hey guys. I know the chances of Rick Nash being traded is slim to none, and slim left the building 20 minutes ago. But lets wrap it up in a nice package and make this sound plausible,” says the anonymous producer.

Canadian’s eyes will be on Red Deer in less that three weeks and they will all be thinking of one thing, curling -- specifically women’s curling as the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

What does it take to make a champion? Red Deer College athlete Mary Smith may have some idea. Smith is the CCAA Badminton Athlete of the month. For those who have watched Smith play during her two years at RDC this may not be a surprise.

Wolfgang Janssen has fought many amateur fights but at the tender age of 20. At Hard Knocks Fighting Championship 19 in Calgary, he did something he’s never done before.
