Superstore workers in Edmonton vote in favour of new contract

EDMONTON — Workers at Superstore outlets in the Edmonton area have averted a strike by voting in favour of a new contract.

The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 401 says 58 per cent of its 3,500 members voted to accept the package.

Union president Doug O’Halloran says the four-year deal will see base salaries rise by $1.27 an hour to $10.90 an hour.

O’Halloran says the top rate of pay will increase to $20.25 an hour.

Superstore workers in Edmonton were ready to set up picket lines as early as Thursday.

Employees at Superstores in Calgary were casting ballots in a ratification vote Wednesday.
