Alberta Premier Ed Stelmach says he’s relieved that Stephen Harper has managed to hang on as prime minister by getting permission to adjourn Parliament.
Stelmach also hopes Harper will be listening carefully to what the premiers say about the economy during a first ministers meeting Jan. 16.
The Alberta premier was holding an informal conference call Thursday with several leaders from the western provinces and territories to cobble together an economic wish list for the meeting.
Stelmach said the ideas should help Harper develop a plan for Canada that can be reflected in a budget when Parliament reconvenes in January.
The attempt by a Liberal-NDP coalition to dump Harper’s Conservative government and take over has been met with outrage by many Albertans.
A new group has surfaced in Calgary with the aim of seeing Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia leave Confederation.
