More than $200,000 worth of drugs, which police say were on the way to being sold on Red Deer’s streets, were seized Wednesday from a home in Blackfalds.
Two men were arrested after the RCMP found a loaded AK47, a loaded .357 handgun and a sawed off 12 gauge shot gun in the home in the Rolling Hills Ridge neighborhood of Blackfalds.
Along with the three weapons, police seized, 11.36 kg of marijuana, .7 kg of powder cocaine, .5 kg. of crack cocaine and $65,000 in cash.
The bust happened after Red Deer Federal Drug Section with the assistance of the Red Deer Emergency Response Team and Calgary Integrated Proceeds of Crime executed a search warrant around 5 p.m.
Two men in the house were taken into custody at the scene.
Cpl. Kent Dahl, with the Red Deer Federal Drug Section said officers believe the drugs would have eventually ended up on the streets of Red Deer.
“This is fairly significant and we expect that it will make a dent in the drug activity in Red Deer, with regards to cocaine trafficking as well as marijuana trafficking,” he said.
Officers found a number of things in the house suggesting the drugs were being prepared to be trafficked, Dahl said.
These include, packaging material, a scale and a “score sheet,” Dahl said.
“Score sheets are drug debt ledgers,” he said. “Drug traffickers keep lists of their customers outstanding debts in order to make sure they make full payments.”
Both the AK47 and the sawed off shotgun are prohibited weapons said Cpl. Kathe DeHeer with Red Deer City RCMP.
Police are still investigating the ownership of those weapons, she said.
Shane White, 23, of Blackfalds is charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, one count of possession of proceeds of crime, two counts of possession of a loaded prohibited weapon, one count of possession of a prohibited weapon and one count of failing to comply with the conditions of a recognizance.
Hector Quijada, 26, of Red Deer is charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking and one count of possession of proceeds of crime.
White has been remanded to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on Monday July 21.
Quijada was released to appear in Red Deer Provincial Court on August 28.
