RCMP have charged a third man in connection with the death of Sheldon Mark Hiller of Red Deer.

On Wednesday, police arrested Brent William Crouse, 44, of Calgary and charged him with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Hiller.

Crouse was arrested without incident in Edmonton, says a media release from RCMP. Police say he was known to the victim and the co-accused. Crouse has been remanded in custody and is to appear in Red Deer provincial court on Monday.

A day earlier, a second murder charge was laid in the death of Hiller, whose body was found in a ditch near Raven in April.

Charles Richard Beckett, 47, of Red Deer, who had been charged with accessory after the fact to murder, is now also charged with first-degree murder. Beckett is to appear in Red Deer provincial court on Friday.

Larry Allen Scott, 51, has been remanded in custody until June 10 for his next appearance. Scott is charged with first-degree murder, extortion, uttering death threats and assault. Scott was charged on May 1.

The body of Hiller, 46, was found on April 17 in a ditch along Hwy 54, about three km west of Raven. A passerby saw human remains and contacted RCMP.

Hiller, a widower, had lived in Red Deer for about five years and worked most recently as a neon sign repairman before he was laid off.
