Red Deer RCMP are investigating after a pedestrian was struck by a truck Wednesday afternoon.

The woman was crossing in the crosswalk at 28th Street and Gaetz Avenue when she was hit by a truck travelling eastbound, said Cpl. Kathe DeHeer with City RCMP.

Witnesses to the collision stopped traffic and offered first aid to the woman prior to the arrival of emergency response personnel. The woman was transported by ambulance to hospital with undetermined injuries.

Charges against the truck driver are pending, DeHeer said.

The woman is the second pedestrian to be struck by a truck in the city in two days.

A 22-year-old man was seriously injured when he was struck by a truck while running across Gaetz Avenue shortly after midnight on Tuesday.

The pedestrian, wearing dark-coloured clothing, crossed between intersections north of the 6800-block. He ran into the path of a southbound pick-up.

The man was taken to Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre and then by STARS air ambulance to Calgary.

If you are J-walking, then you are legal game; if not then why not charge the driver?

I think drivers in the Red Deer area no matter the age should be forced to retake their driver's tests and safety driving. I would bet a HUGE amount of money on well over half of them failing it bad.

Maybe city council should pass a j-walking law in red deer so these types of accidents are avoided....and lets make it a huge fine not $35 and you only have to pay $10 if its paid within 10 days.....

I can't even count how many times I have almost been hit by a car while walking on a cross walk. Drivers need to PAY ATTENTION.
