RCMP are warning the public to be on the alert for a convicted Red Deer pedophile who walked away from a half-way house in Edmonton last weekend.
Police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for the arrest of high-risk offender Kevin Lorne Valley, 44, who hasn’t been seen since last Saturday, Cpl. Kathe DeHeer of city RCMP said Friday.
Valley lived in Red Deer when he was convicted of attempting to sexually assault two young Blackfalds area girls in 1999.
He was convicted at a trial and sentenced to six years in jail, which also included convictions for possession of child pornography and committing an indecent act.
He was also placed on 10 years probation once he completed his prison term. He still has six years to serve on that.
A psychiatric report in 1999 said Valley has been a sexual offender since his mid 20s and is likely to reoffend.
DeHeer said if Valley is spotted by anyone they should phone their nearest police detachment and not take any action to apprehend him.
When released from prison, Valley was described by police as an “opportunistic and predatory” pedophile.
He has been convicted three times of offences against young girls since 1989, all in Central Alberta.
“We’re very aware of the situation and we’re taking all the steps we can to find him and make sure he’s not in Red Deer,” said DeHeer.
Valley has family in the Red Deer area and Saskatchewan.
Valley is listed as being 1.75 metres (five feet, nine inches) tall and weighs about 91 kg (200 pounds). He has brown eyes and short, reddish brown hair.
He was last seen driving a 2005 blue Toyota Corolla with licence plate number NKY 775.
In Red Deer people can phone police at 403-343-5575 or 1-800-222-8477.
