ShareOlympic Torch to pass through Red Deer

The national spotlight will shine on Red Deer as it welcomes the Olympic Torch relay in January 2010.
Mayor Morris Flewwelling made the announcement on Friday at the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame in front of a crowd of politicians, sports enthusiasts and school officials.
“There were only 187 communities chosen in Canada and we were one of them,” said Lyn Radford, chair of the local Olympic Torch Relay Committee.
The torch relay committee is now planning a community celebration for the day the torch comes to the city.
Details of the route and celebration have not been finalized.
The celebration will be held at Westerner Park.
The Olympics in Vancouver will be held Feb. 12 to 28, 2010.
