Old Trochu elevator comes crashing down
The annex to the Viterra grain elevator in Trochu finally toppled on Friday after a few days of steady demolition work.
A pair of Columbia Rail backhoes incrementally ate away at the structure’s north side before sufficient momentum finally caused the building to fall.
The demolition of small town, wooden grain elevators has become common as grain companies opted over the past decade for farmers to deliver to much larger, concrete inland terminals, two of which are located south of Trochu.
