Mounties chase down ATV theft suspect

A male suspect is in custody after Red Deer Rural RCMP chased him down, first by cruiser and then on foot.

The man is facing charges after an ATV and vehicle were stolen in Red Deer County on Thursday and a theft occurred at the FasGas in Penhold on Friday morning.

Cpl. Andrew Shepherd, with Red Deer Rural RCMP, said an individual allegedly stole a vehicle and a quad Thursday afternoon, along the C&E Trail south of the city. RCMP officers were on the lookout for a thief when a theft occurred at a FasGas in Penhold at 8 a.m. Friday. No weapon was used in the theft.

Seven RCMP officers were involved in the pursuit by vehicle and eventually on foot.

Less than two hours later a man was taken into custody along Hwy 2A, just north of McKenzie Road, at around 10 a.m.

Shepherd said the theft charges, as well as traffic offences and possibly impaired driving are being considered.

More information is expected to be released later today when the man is officially charged. The man’s name has not been released pending charges later today.
