Man charged after three die in collision
A Hobbema man has been charged with 12 Criminal Code offences following a fatal accident that claimed three lives in April.
Jody Lee Francis Soosay, 28, faces three charges of impaired driving causing death.
He also faces three of criminal negligence causing death, two of impaired driving causing bodily harm, two of criminal negligence causing bodily harm, one of operating a motor vehicle over .08 and one of driving while prohibited.
Hobbema RCMP responded to a collision on April 28 about five km east of Hobbema on Hwy 611 at an intersection.
The collision occurred between a eastbound vehicle and a southbound vehicle.
The eastbound vehicle had two occupants. One adult male from it died at the scene.
The southbound had four occupants. Two adult male victims in it died at the scene.
Hobbema RCMP arrested Soosay on May 15. He has been remanded in custody and is to appear in Wetaskiwin provincial court on May 27.
This matter is still under investigation.
New trial date in dog’s death
A new trial date has been set into the shooting of a breeding dog for the RCMP’s Police Dog Training Centre.
The trial was to be held on Wednesday in Rocky Mountain House provincial court but was rescheduled for Dec. 8.
The German shepherd named Nyla, born in 2002, was found shot on Aug. 16, 2007, near Caroline.
Nyla had five puppies from one litter all graduate last spring from the Innisfail area dog training centre.
That was recognized as an amazing achievement among dog breeders and trainers.
Brood keepers in the community care for mothers like Nyla as part of the centre’s breeding program.
Robert Gordon Adams, 51, was charged with death or injury to an animal, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and storing a firearm in a careless manner.
Gay Pride Month set for Red Deer
Gay Pride Month gets kicked off in Red Deer on Saturday, May 31, with a film screening and discussion surrounding the issues facing gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and transsexual people.
The free event, Creating Dialogue Around Homosexuality, will be hosted by the Central Alberta Diversity Association, Central Alberta AIDS Network Society and Red Deer Public Library.
The event takes place in the library’s Snell Auditorium between 2 and 4 p.m. It is open to the general public.
The film, entitled GLBTT, interviews young adults on subjects such as identity issues, coming out and human rights.
