$5,000 stolen from newlyweds

A newlywed is devastated after someone swiped $5,000 from his truck — just minutes before he was to take it to the bank.

Adrian Gilmar, 31, of Lacombe said the money was stolen while he was working at a car dealership on Red Deer’s south side on Tuesday.

That morning, he put the cash and cheques in an envelope underneath the driver’s seat. The doors were locked, it was the middle of the day and the street fronts busy Gaetz Avenue.

He parked his Chevy 2005 truck in front of an inn at 28th Street and 50th Avenue.

Gilmar said he checked on his truck about 4 p.m. and everything was OK.

“I was going to go to the bank then, but I got called back in (to work),” he said.

By the time he returned at 7:50 p.m., he found the passenger’s window was smashed.

Gilmar figures the theft occurred sometime after 6 p.m. after speaking with the owners of a truck parked behind him. A pipe was found right next to Gilmar’s truck.

Realizing the money wasn’t there, Gilmar said he “broke down.”

He said the money was given by family and friends as a wedding gift.

Gilmar married his sweetheart of 10 years on Aug. 1.

“This is the money me and my wife were starting out with,” he said.

Gilmar said he reported the theft to police, but was told there was nothing they could do.

The deductible on insurance is $1,000 and even so, it only covers $500, he added.

Gilmar is now offering a financial reward. Anyone with information can call him at 403-348-9989.
