Soup kitchens, homeless shelters don’t degrade our downtown

Last week someone wrote a comment of the Advocate’s website bashing community services that help the less fortunate (the comment was reprinted in the newspaper).

Nothings has enraged me more than this individual. This person seems to think that all homeless people choose to be there and soup kitchens and homeless shelters degrade our downtown.

It is pretty sad when we feel arrogant enough to judge others and not have the boldness to sign our real names to our opinions.

Do all people make choices in their lives? Sure, but if the worst thing I ever do is care or love too much — even to those that others perceive as “unlovable” — then I have done my job.

So what if there are those that take advantage? We all have a social responsibility to take care of those that are not as “blessed” as we are.
