Biggest Tree Festival
The Red Deer Regional Health Foundation wants you to join them and Santa Claus on Nov. 24 in downtown Red Deer for the Biggest Christmas Tree Festival and parade, featuring floats and live entertainment. The event kicks off the 2009 Festival of Trees, with this year’s theme being Christmas Around the World. The parade starts at 6:15 p.m. at and it will run south along 48th Avenue to Ross Street and then west to 49th Avenue. It ends at the City Hall Park, where the festival and lighting of the biggest Christmas tree will take place. Participants must register for the parade by Friday, by going to www.reddeerfestivaloftrees.ca and click on events calendar, then on Biggest Christmas Tree Festival and then on parade application and rules for forms. Organizers are still looking for volunteers. For more information, phone Jennifer at 403-396-2643.
Beware of wildlife
Motorists are being asked to be extra cautious in watching out for wildlife this month, even in urban areas. Mating season makes deer and moose even more unpredictable than usual during November, says Alberta Motor Association spokesman Scott Wilson. Statistics from Alberta Transportation show collisions with wildlife have killed 95 people and injured 6,700 others since 1991.
Correction
A story on Page C1 of Saturday’s Advocate had the wrong hours for viewing the Red Deer Kinsmen Dream Home. The correct viewing hours for November are from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. During the month of December, the home is open seven days a week from 1 to 5 p.m., except for Dec. 24, 25 and 26, when the house is closed. The dream home draw is Dec. 31. The $600,000 house is located at 36 Clearview Drive near 30th Avenue and 67th Street. For more information about the home, go to www.reddeerkinsmen.com
