Give an hour of pay

United Way has developed its own hour of power. To help boost their 2009 campaign, organizers for the Central Alberta region are asking workers to donate an hour of their salaries or wages. One hour’s worth of salary or wage can immensely improve the life of someone who is without work or who has been hit especially hard during tough times, say campaign chair Darcy Mykytyshyn and CEO Heather Gardiner. Christian musical

Get ready for another Seeker musical, which turns Christian messages into adventure stories for family audiences. Seeker: Carriers of the Kingdom, described as “a modern, yet medieval, musical theatrical experience,” runs Dec. 10 to 13 in the Word of Life Centre’s auditorium. More than 120 actors, singers and dancers from across Central Alberta are involved in this 90-minute stage show, written by local children’s pastor Dian Layton, who has won Covenant Awards for her music. Seeker: Carriers of the Kingdom brings a seasonal message of hope and love, and involves the characters Jester Minute, True-Badour, three nasty dragons and, of course, Seeker and the King. Layton describes it as a family-friendly adventure. Tickets are $8 a person from Scott’s Parables Bookstore or online from www.wordoflife.ca. History book

Reprints of a history book for the region covering Elnora, Pine Lake and Huxley will be made available for sale at a book launch set for this Thursday. Ellen Jewell, representing the Elnora-Pine Lake history committee, says so many people have asked for copies of Buried Treasures, first published in 1973, that another 300 have been printed. The books are being offered at $50 each, with proceeds to be donated to local charities. Copies of an update, Buried Treasures II as well as Rainbow Means Hope, the story of the Pine Lake tornado, are also available for sale. The book launch is set for 2 to 5 p.m. at the Elnora Community Hall. For more information, call 403-773-2127.
