Metis group
to form
A new local of the Alberta Métis Association is being organized in Red Deer. There are a number of issues coming up involving government that make it important for Métis people to have a strong voice, including those who live in the Red Deer area, says interim president Myrtle Beaulieu. A local had been formed a number of years ago but has since been disbanded. Anyone interested in learning more about plans for the new Red Deer River Crossing local is invited to attend an open house at Métis Links on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. Representatives from other locals will be on hand to provide information and talk about requirements for obtaining a Métis card, said Beaulieu. While it’s a drop-in format, there will be a presentation at 6 p.m. Métis Links is located on the lower floor at No. 1 4814 Ross St. To learn more, call Beaulieu at 403-391-0808.
