Broken glass at outdoor rink

Town council is considering options to ease the cost of replacing glass at the Ponoka Kinsmen/Scott Seaman Outdoor Sports Rink. Recently tempered glass has been broken, possibly from vandalism and possibly from being brittle in extreme cold.

Coun. Rick Bonnett suggested as the glass breaks to replace it with Plexiglass, which is less brittle in cold weather and less expensive.

Council seeking feedback on recreation

Bonnett suggested and council agreed the town survey users and operators of recreation services in Ponoka. The completed surveys will go to the economic development board and the recreation committee. Bonnett hopes the surveys will give committee members a chance to “start moving forward to plan recreation, and I’d like them to get the surveys out to all the users.”

Planning for September

Town council has a planned date change for their meeting to be Sept. 24 instead of Sept. 25 and will begin at 6:30 p.m. The change is to give councillors the opportunity to attend the 2012 Alberta Urban Municipalities Association convention, which begins Sept. 26, but there are some pre-conference sessions councillors can attend.
