RCMP seize vehicle for unsafe modifications

After repeated warnings, Ponoka RCMP issued a ticket to the owner of a ’96 GMC Sierra on Jan. 10, for not conforming to vehicle equipment regulations. The truck’s brake lights were sprayed with translucent black paint.

Const. Michael De Ryck said it is hard for other drivers to see painted brake lights turn on, which is a safety issue for drivers.

The vehicle was towed and held until new covers were placed, police confiscated the painted covers.

The wheels on the bus go round and round

A Greyhound bus driver called Ponoka RCMP for assistance when a drunken passenger tried to open the front door while in motion on Highway 2. A 52-year-old High Level man was charged for public intoxication and had to spend the night at the police station.

He later claimed to have a sprained ankle and asked to be admitted into the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre, but refused to leave after being treated.

The man was brought back to the detachment and police made arrangements to get him home.

Driving too close

On Jan. 13 a three-car collision occurred southbound on Highway 2 by Crandall’s Crossing, due to one person driving too close. One vehicle had to stopped for a traffic matter, a second had to stop suddenly to avoid hitting the first, and the third hit the second, which then hit the first, creating a chain reaction. The third driver was charged with driving too close.

Broken glass

RCMP are looking for information on a car broken into sometime between Jan. 14 and 15. The driver’s side window was smashed in and some change was taken out of the vehicle in the 5800 block of 57 Avenue.

Broken headlight leads to arrest

On Jan. 15 at 1 a.m. police stopped a vehicle with a broken headlight. The officer smelled alcohol and requested the male driver conduct a roadside screening check, which he failed. He was then taken to the detachment and gave two blood alcohol samples, one at .17 and the other at .18. He was charged with impaired driving.

Two female passengers, who were in the vehicle, were also arrested for outstanding warrants.
