RCMP seize guns and drugs from suspect burglars
In a joint effort with Rimbey RCMP, Ponoka Mounties executed a search of a home on the 4600 block of 38 Avenue Jan. 19 at 2:14 a.m.
The search was a result of several break and enter complaints in Rimbey involving a 21-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl. Rimbey police were able to link the man to at least six separate businesses that were broken into. He has been charged with 26 Criminal Code offences; the teenaged girl also faces charges.
The ongoing investigation led police to search the Ponoka residence and among the seized items was a double-barreled 12-gauge shotgun, three 12-gauge shotguns and two lever-action high-powered rifles. Ammunition, drug scales and a small amount of marijuana and cocaine was also confiscated.
Damage to truck nabs vandals
Ponoka RCMP responded to a report of a missing golf cart from the Wolf Creek Golf Resort Jan. 21. Sometime in the evening of Jan. 20, suspects smashed and broke the maintenance yard gate and stole the golf cart.
A rope was tied to the cart, attached to a pickup truck and dragged along Range Road 262, westbound on Highway 604. Suspects then changed direction and proceeded eastbound on Range Road 263.
The purpose appears to have been to cause damage to mailboxes and signs along the road. The cart was found with extensive damage and was deemed inoperable.
Police found several pieces of a broken tail light from a pickup truck and their investigation led them to match the broken pieces to the accused pickup.
Three youths have been charged with mischief over $5,000 and theft.
Impaired driver caught after crash
Ponoka RCMP thank residents for their support after receiving several phone calls from concerned drivers. A male driver of an older GMC pickup was reported to be swerving from lane to lane on Highway 2A south of Ponoka and almost went off the Battle River Bridge.
Police found the vehicle in the ditch by the Lacombe exit and the driver was found to have a blood-alcohol concentration of .17 and .16 on a second test.
