A Hobbema Mountie suffered a broken leg after he was rammed by a suspected gunman driving an ATV.

Police received a complaint around 6 a.m. Feb. 5 about gunshots at a residence in the Louis Bull townsite northwest of Hobbema, RCMP said in a press release. An investigation found at least one of the suspects was still in the area on an ATV.

A constable spotted a man driving an ATV nearby and got out of his patrol vehicle to stop it.

The driver of the ATV then accelerated, striking the Mountie, who suffered a broken leg. His injuries were treated in Red Deer, RCMP said.

The ATV vehicle was later found nearby and an RCMP service dog helped locate a man, who was arrested.

Clinton Scott Roasting, 29, of the Louis Bull First Nation, is charged with discharge of firearm with intent to endanger life, criminal negligence, operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and other related offences. He was scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin provincial court Feb. 8.

The search continues for another man believed to be involved in the initial gunshots complaints, RCMP said. A warrant has been issued for Shawn Kyle Roasting, 21, also of the Louis Bull First Nation. RCMP said the men are brothers.

Anyone with information about Shawn Roasting is asked not to approach him and instead to contact the Hobbema RCMP detachment at 780-585-3767.
