Gunman sentenced five years
Hobbema RCMP hope a stiff sentence given to a gunman will discourage similar drive-by shootings in the community.
Clinton Roy Green, 20, a Samson Cree First Nation member, was sentenced recently to five years in prison for a drive-by shooting that left a woman with life-threatening injuries.
RCMP were called in the early morning of April 30, 2010 to a house after it was sprayed by gunfire from a large-calibre rifle.
Green was tracked down by a police dog several blocks away at another house.
One bullet hit a 22-year-old woman in the abdomen. RCMP didn’t believe the woman was the intended target, but the shooting was gang related.
Green was convicted of aggravated assault and given 18 months credit for pre-trial custody, leaving 42 months remaining in his sentence.
