Actions disappoint voter
Dear Editor:
After hearing the results from the byelection for the seat on town council, I am disappointed. I understand everyone has a right to vote for whomever they choose, but I will have a hard time knowing that the person who won will be a part of making decisions for the people of Ponoka.
As I understand it, the candidates were not to display advertisements in or around the voting station. When I went to vote around 12:30 p.m., I go in and vote for the candidate of my choice. When I went to drive away though, I noticed the winning candidate had a truck parked at the end of the block with a big bright orange sign, and someone else sitting in the truck, holding another bright orange sign, and turning it just so, to show people driving by in each direction, what the sign said.
The Kinsmen Community Centre, which was the voting station I am talking about, was about 50 feet away from where this truck with all this advertising was parked. I have little faith in this town if the candidates can bend or break the rules with little consequence. I also have a hard time knowing that this person now sits on town council. How do I know that the decisions made are the right ones, if they can’t even follow the simple rules of an election.
I will most likely not vote in the next election, because it just doesn’t seem to me like they are fair for all who are involved.
Amy Stevens
