Owners of a new restaurant in Ponoka invited local businesspeople Feb. 8 to an exclusive peek to sample their tasty menu items.

Cilantro and Chive officially opened its doors on Feb. 11 and owners Rieley and Kim Kay hope their “fresh and simple” philosophy will keep diners coming back for seconds and thirds.

“Our big thing is we want to feature local produce and protein,” explained Rieley.

Rieley was the chef at the Wolf Creek Golf Resort but his dream has always been to own his own restaurant.

“The response has been good, there has been a lot of excitement.”

He also owns Cilantro Catering, which will keep him busy.

To stay in line with keeping it local, the restaurant also keeps micro-brewed beer on hand. Watch for Calgary’s Wild Rose Brewery bottles.

Cilantro and Chive offers elk, bison, lamb, turkey and of course beef burgers. Dessert is an ever-changing affair so Rieley keeps it off the menu to keep guests guessing.

The artwork on the walls of the restaurant comes from a local photographer and they hope to change the art on the walls monthly to showcase local artists.

Take some time to try out Cilantro and Chive at 4213 Highway 2A at the former Blue Ox Café.
