Hot dogs, bonfire at family day
Those looking to celebrate family day with their loved ones need not leave Ponoka in search of activities to enjoy together.
A number of events geared toward families are planned around town for Feb. 20, and Wes Amendt, director of community services for the Town of Ponoka, feels the opportunities for families to have fun in Ponoka are endless.
“It’s a day to be with your family and do things as families whether it’s attending one of the structured activities or just getting out there on your own and creating your own family fun,” he said.
“It could be tobogganing, bowling, going for pizza, or even just going for a walk — there are lots of things to do.”
Taking place at the Ponoka Culture and Recreation Complex is the Town of Ponoka-sponsored Family Day.
Commencing at 11 a.m., events at the complex will run until 4 p.m., and will include skating and shinny hockey, which will require participants to wear a helmet.
A bonfire will warm participants in the parking lot of the arena, and hot dogs and hot chocolate will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Admission to events at the arena will be charged by way of a donation to the Ponoka Food Bank.
For those unable to make it to the arena, a number of other locations around town will offer activities and leisurely events for families to participate in. There is a Family Day Swim at the Ponoka Aquaplex, and an open house will be hosted by the Ponoka Gymnastics Club at the Kinsmen Community Centre.
