Club ready for first ride of year
December was a bit slower for us. At our club meeting we discussed some future fundraisers and just so happens one of them is going to be another bottle drive. So watch for us in the spring of 2012.
We also talked about having a first aid course for our horses; our up and coming club project day when we will put our building skills to work. We then decided to combine our public speaking workshop and club meeting together Jan 8.
All of us were excited to see the Ponoka Ag Event Centre where we ride got some new sand in so we were able to have a club ride Dec 5. We also weighed our horses and learned about our horses’ vitals. Some of us had learned this before, but it is always good to refresh our memory. Did you know that a horse’s normal body temperature is 37.5 to 38 degrees Celsius.
We had a great turnout with our Cow Patti Brunch Theatre ticket sales fundraiser that also included a silent auction table. Thank you to all of you who donated items for this, our club really appreciates it.
On Dec. 16 we had our club’s Christmas party. We all went neon bowling which also included a Chinese gift exchange afterwards. There wasn’t much stealing going on. Thanks Leisure Lanes for putting up with us. I think I can pretty much say “fun was had by all.” Who would have thought a bunch of cowgirls and cowboys could turn out to be pretty good bowlers.
Our next meeting is Jan. 8 with our next ride on Jan. 16. Yee-haw! The club’s first ride in 2012.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Ponoka 4-H Renegade Riders!
