CALGARY — A judge has ruled that police officers in Calgary did not entrap one of their colleagues during an investigation into Internet luring.

The judge has rejected a request to stay charges against Const. Randann Sargent after the defence argued that the officer was set up by investigators.

Sargent pleaded guilty in May to Internet luring when he admitted to using a chat service to send nude photos of himself to a person under 18, and asking for nude photos in return.

Court heard Sargent thought he was talking to a 17-year-old girl, when he was actually conversing with an undercover officer from Edmonton.

Crown prosecutor Craig Krieger says the case should send a message that more and more, Internet predators are becoming the prey.

Sentencing is expected to take place Oct. 15.
