Fraud alert

Red Deer City RCMP are warning residents to make sure they don’t fall for a scam that is too good to be true.

Police say in some cases people fall prey to items listed in print or websites that are at a reduced price.

The seller will tell the buyer to pay through a money order or wire transfer outside of the country, the item never arrives and the seller can’t be located.

In other cases, police say a buyer will send a fraudulent cheque or money order for more than the amount of the item and then ask the seller to refund the difference.
